Wherever your wedding, be it on the beach in an exotic location, a church or simple hall, we can help create your memories, with snippets from your wedding day.

Everybody would love to have perfect wedding pictures and not to have to pay much.  We are not talking about getting friends on their mobiles or even friends with a nice camera to take them,  but to have an experienced professional with a great eye and creativity to fit in with you and what you want and maybe even to think of something you didn’t even know you would like.  I mean – how much experience do most brides-to-be have of contemporary wedding photography?  Most images from weddings are those they see on their friend’s Facebook pages the day after or even on the day of their wedding,  or have seen in older-styled wedding albums.  Not every picture is an award-winning shot, but combined together they tend to form a bridge between the actual event and wedding day memories that fade over the years.

Questions to ask your wedding photographer – before you book them.

Asian wedding in West Yorkshire

As an experienced wedding photographer, I know that the first question EVERYONE asks is “How much? ”  Of course that’s important , and its what we all do when researching a product or  service online.  We recently needed to buy a new microwave, after the one we bought just months before ceased to work.  Crazy I know, but I spent hours and hours with my mental list of what was important to me, comparing products and prices.  The prices bit was easy, as once I’d chosen the make and model, it’s a like-for-like straight forward search.

Wedding photographers though are human beings, so each and everyone is unique.  OK you can compare “packages”, but even if the  album on offer is from the same supplier, the number of pages, the cover and the number of photos included, let alone the care  taken over the design – how many revisions – and any additional charges  and the style – could all result in a totally different vision.

One of my hard drives failed last week – but fortunately the client’s data was safe, as I always back up the original files shot .  However, even though I had only had the drive for three weeks, I learned a valuable lesson.  I had chosen the cheapest possible drive of that size!  When I contacted the data recovery company so I didn’t lose the extra work I had done, they told me that 75% of the drives they get sent, were all the same as the make I had chosen – (a Seagate Barracuda ) .   Had I spent just 25% more I could have avoided this situation and the extra my mistake.  If only I had checked the REVIEWS!  It turns out that 25% of all reviewers complained that their drive failed – and gave it 1 star only –  so the average rating was a mere 3 stars.

We all would like our wedding photographer to be the best we can afford, so the moral of this story is to check reviews of your prospective wedding photographer before even contacting them to check they have the date available, and choose the best rated that suits you!

SO…..

1-Check what others are saying about your wedding photographer before you book.  Do a Google search to see what you can find. about them.

2 – Check if the person taking your photos is actually the person you thought it was, as many companies use freelancers with varied experience

3 –  Check how long they have been in business, as most of the avoidable mistakes are made when the photographer first starts up.

4 – Have a look at samples, both online and in person – if at all possible – and not just the 20 best photos they have ever taken – but ideally the full spectrum of a complete wedding.  Bear in mind though that from the original photos taken, the personal choices of the couple may be different from what you might have picked from the variety of pictures taken.

I once received a phone call from the bride’s mother – who had been the one actually paying for the album – saying “I don’t like the album!” “Why”,  I asked – “what is it that you don’t like about the album? ”  “It doesn’t have any pictures of my sisters in it”.  I explained to her that although I had definitely taken several shots of her with her 3 sisters, that the choice of images was entirely up to the couple concerned, and that although I shoot everything and everyone – both natural and posed pics – the only thing I could do for her was to design a different album  – just for her – with the photos that she really wanted to have in it.   The result was an entirely different wedding album!  The style and layout were different too, so it wasn’t just in the choice of images, to reflect her personality and tastes.  She paid me separately for this of course, but at least I could make her happy.

The link below is from an independent blog post I came across on Linkedin today, and it clearly outlines all the points I  think are important to you.

Black and White wedding Photography

Tuesday, November 25th, 2014

I am, above all else, a colourist.  From way back in the days I started out as an artist, living and painting in Greece, colour dawned on me like a thunderbolt: strong ultramarine brush strokes, vibrant reds and contrasting areas of light and shade became my trademark.  Yesterday however, I was challenged to post a series of black and white photos on my Facebook site, to show off the potential of that medium.

Black and white used to be the only medium available for photographers when I first started out.  I spent hours and hours with my Brownie Box Camera – a present from my father for my first ever school trip to London when I was 11 – sticking the family photos I shot into an album, using gold photo corners and labelling them in white ink on black card with a dip in pen.  Sadly these photos albums no longer exist, as my parents, blessed with a large family – of whom I am the eldest – completed various moves after I left home, so I guess they were abandoned in an uncleared loft space loft space, or found their way accidentally, in the bin.  I do however, still have the photos my grandfather took of my parents on their wedding day, and two pictures of me with my grandmother, as a baby.

So, now my art has come fill circle – allowing the images to speak for themselves, not from lack of colour, but from the unconstrained and uncluttered emotions, that become the focus of pure black and white.

Coincidentally. these three wedding pictures are all from the same wedding story.

I have this wedding picture on my wall , as love the light and composition!

Well this week  we have Asian  weddings every day, for video and photos, so not much time left to even breathe!  This lovely bride was just getting ready to go to her wedding in Bradford, having been getting her hair and make-up at a salon in Leeds, but time was running out. At  9.50 am  there was still no sign of the bride, and only one guest had made it to the Register Office at that point, so it was increasingly looking like they would miss their slot. Register Office weddings on Saturday’s in August are like gold-dust, so if they didn’t get there pretty soon they would then have to wait till 4.00pm!  The guests for the next wedding had already been ushered in, so it was looking very unlikely that this wedding would happen…. Then the bride arrives, with the groom, but she is not getting married without her mum and dad there.  I keep liaising with the Registrar’s assistant, as the tension mounts.  The guests have by now managed to get there so it would  be a huge shame if the wedding couldn’t go ahead.  I go outside to look and a white car is pulling up spilling out the bride’s family, as they clatter quickly across the tarmac.  By the skin of their teeth the wedding can go ahead!

After a few family photos, we drive to Lister Park, and midst dramatic light and brooding skies just get the pictures we want before the rain starts to fall.

Unusual weding pictures

Bride drinking WKD while feeding her baby milk!

unusual weddings

This bride already had two children so when they got round to getting married, they wanted a fun day out on a modest budget, just for immediate family – oh and their wedding photographer too! I had great fun capturing their day, even though the May weather was not on their side, with intermittent rain showers. We even travelled their together, by steam train from Pickering!

Cheltenham wedding dress, bouquet and shoes

Wedding dress, bouquet and shoes

The bride didn’t want any pictures taking of her getting ready, but I did manage to get these few of her dress, shoes, and bouquet.  Note the sixpence in her shoe, to fulfil the traditions of the old rhyme:  “Something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in my shoe…”

The groom’s family invited us to cover Rachel and Petar’s wedding, and as we had to travel from Dewsbury, the groom’s family arranged for us to stay over the night before at the Rising Sun in Cheltenham.  The views from outside the hotel are wonderful, right out across the valley below this second picture.  Just imagine endless green fields and a sun filled sky …
