This romantic couple met in The Gambia and kept in touch for 5 or 6 years before getting married at Coco Ocean Hotel in The Gambia, Christmas 2015. I was lucky enough to be their wedding photographer, the 5th wedding I have photographed in the Gambia since 2010. The image above is the one they chose to be on the cover of their wedding album. The bride really likes black and white wedding pictures, and this was the groom’s favourite photo from their wedding day at Ocean hotel and Spa in Kololi. I love beach weddings and this wedding venue in particular!
Earlier this year, I happened to meet a lovely young Canadian couple when they were travelling through the UK on a shoestring budget. I mentioned that I was a wedding photographer, and that I put experiences above money, ( though of course we still have to earn our living) so was really excited when they messaged me in September about their imminent wedding plans. They didn’t want the usual kind of wedding with family and friends around them, but opted to have their legal wedding ceremony on top of a mountain in Iceland! Now I’ve always said that I will go anywhere – even on top of a mountain – (but not jump out of an aeroplane or dive under the sea) so of course I jumped at the idea.
The weather in October – even in the UK – is touch and go for an outdoor wedding, so it was a huge risk that they, the registrar – and the camera – would get soaked. However we were SO lucky! It rained – or snowed – on days either side of the wedding, but that Saturday was perfect! Freezing cold of course, but our super romantic couple had such an adrenalin rush, they stood their with the wind in their hair, the groom in just shirt and trousers, the bride in a strapless – almost backless – white wedding dress they had bought at last minute from a charity shop. Their love was shining through as was the sunshine, though it was still bitterly cold in the wind. I was fully dressed in outdoor walking gear myself though!
After the ceremony the couple walk down the mountain and take a few private moments to share their mutual joy. I watch from afar…and capture this picture.
If you are getting married in Iceland , I would love to go back there!
This amazing couple from Canada, decided to get married in Iceland, and invited me to be their wedding photographer. Reel Life Photos is based in the UK – so truly international! www.reellifephotos.co.uk

This was my 6th visit to Cuba since 1996, but the cars have not changed. I was in Havana to photograph a real Cuban wedding – on 14th December 2014 – but couldn’t resist spending a day in Old Havana just taking pictures of cars and people.
I actually met my husband here, on the last day of my very first trip to Cuba, but it wasn’t till my second visit 18 months later that we got together. I had just completed a 6 month’s rapid course in Spanish, but even so by head ached after spending hours and hours talking in Spanish on that second visit that change the course of my life. He was working as a Sound Designer /Recordist/Engineer at Cuban TV, and I had just graduated from Huddersfield Uni. Fortunately he was a very accomplished English speaker too, so no problems of communication at all.
I spent my first week cycling from Havana to Trinidad (a town in Cuba) – a distance of about 250 km – in aid of the National Deaf Children’s Society, then in the second week stayed with this lovely Cuban family I had met on the last day of my initial visit when on a study trip. They had a 50 year old fridge that needed a new motor, so I made it a condition that I was allowed to pay for that to be repaired. Towards the end of that week, we went into Havana to try and get an umbrella repaired – yes repaired – and on our way back as we were waiting for a bus, I asked Jorge why he didn’t consider coming to the UK to work. his reply was that in order to work in the UK, he would need to be married. Without even thinking , I replied,
“Well that can be arranged!”
15 years on , we are still married, so sometime things are just meant to be.
Its not often I get to photograph a wedding in Cuba, so am excited to post these first few pics following my recent trip there for this wedding. It isn’t set in a glamorous hotel or on an exotic beach, but the happiness in the couple’s faces shows the true meaning of a wedding day.
If you are planning to get married in Cuba, or are having your wedding reception abroad then get in touch , as we only charge the same as a UK wedding, other than a bit of hospitality if I don’t know anyone in the particular country your are getting married in. I have places to stay in The Seychelles, The Gambia, Cyprus and Cuba, and possibly others in different countries, depending on the towns. I am happy to travel anywhere really, and have already covered weddings in The Ice Hotel in Sweden, in Australia, Norway, Nigeria, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, France, Southern Ireland, Cyprus, Gambia and The Seychelles. We can come as a video-photography team or I can also shoot some video footage, as well as taking photos.
xx Elaine and Jorge
We were in Norway to photograph and video a lovely Norwegian bride’s Muslim wedding, but the day after we had finished, we took the chance to have half a day of and to take the train from Sandnes to Stavanger. Within minutes we had chanced upon a wedding, as the bride and groom exited the church, surrounded by all their guests. I just couldn’t resist the temptation to grab a few shots from a distance…
I love all kinds of weddings, anywhere in the world, and have been fortunate to have shared many, many interesting couples exciting weddings from Australia to Pakistan to Scotland, and many countries in between in 5 different continents. Just a glimpse of possibilities… am sure your wedding would be amazing too, so get in touch if these pics inspire you. xx Elaine
PS we also create interesting wedding videos, so can come as a team.
Zoe approached me early in 2009 to see if I was up for photographing another wedding in the Ice Hotel at Jukkasjärvi in Sweden – on 28 December 2010 – after finding my original Blog post for Colin and Sarah’s wedding that I covered in 2007. Apparently I appeared so enthusiastic with my ideas that she was completely bowled over so coupled with the fact that we don’t charge for travel – just accommodation – and was happy to throw in her planned UK reception in Bath too – she quickly decided that we were the right wedding photographers for their special wedding. This is the resulting Italian made storybook wedding album – which I’ve just finished designing for them. I also had to squeeze in all their UK reception – AND church wedding blessing (yes – it was like a full-blown second wedding!) into this same album but think it will look better in a separate wedding blog post at least…if not in a second album! xx Elaine
On the left there is a sequence of photos where everyone was throwing snowballs at Zoe & Steve. Love their expressions!
The image on the bottom left with the green sky shows the fleeting Northern Lights – The Aurora Borealis – which we were lucky enough to see between taking wedding photos inside the Ice Hotel! Magic! xx
