Just heard that we have won a Gold Award for Travel Photography!

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Was thrilled to hear today that an image I submitted to the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) has been awarded a GOLD Award in the category of Travel Photography!  Every time I travel abroad for lovely people’s weddings I revel in the opportunity to create a snapshot of my experiences for others to see and share.   The SWPP also has other Societies within its umbrella, so am also a Licentiate of the Society of Travel and Tourism SITTP, so hope its OK to include the image here even though it is not a wedding photo: our eyes don’t stop simply because we are not commissioned to record a day’s events around us!

Gambian naming ceremony banquet

Denise Camara commissioned us to cover her wedding in Gambia, and arranged for me to stay with the Best Man Adama in the district of Serrekunda.  He kindly took me to a friend’s compound – a group of houses within one enclosed space – where a naming ceremony was taking place.  I would love  to have submitted the whole series of images I shot that day – or even selected images from the whole 10 days I spent there immersed in Gambian culture, meeting so many kind, happy, but struggling West Africans.  See more pictures on our website http://www.reellifephotos.co.uk in the galleries
