Danny O’Neill Your info page is lifted directly from Shoot it yourself. Your website content is also lifted directly (yup, ive seen it). The idea is fair game but copyright can and will get you in a whole lot of trouble. also, dont forget your MCPS and PPL licences.

Film By You – Edited By Us – Wedding Videos Hello Danny, nice to hear from you again 🙂 Their website, under law, dose not have any protection under copyright. They need to seek proper advice on what copyright is. Or you could tell them – They need to include a name of the legal copyright owner – it as to be a legal entity. What they have is not a legal entity. The legal entity can however be a website address or a company, a person or any legal entity. However if it was copyrighted there is such a thing as limitations and exceptions to copyright, such as fair use – which means it is ok to copy a small amount to use however we like. Which is what we have on this page as a tempory stop gap. I do know you have not seen our website as it is not even built yet but when it is it will not be a copy of anything that could be copyrighted. We simplily used your friends site as an example of the type of business we run. I hope that clears up your worries and wish your friends a massive amount of success with their little site and business 🙂

Danny O’Neill You also have to remember that copying like that is un-cool and in this business while somethings you do may be legal’ish the bad word from one bride can destroy even the most established of business’s.

Danny O’Neill Surely it would be easier, less risky and of more benefit to your own business to use your own words, even in the short term. If a bride is looking for a shoot it yourself business then surely they would come across yourself AND SIY. Then, when they see both with the same text alarm bells ring. They then base their choices on which is the most reputable and to be honest, SIY have the more honest looking and professional site. Same goes for your requests to copy their videos and send them to you along with their graphics system.

We certainly will not pretend they are ours. I can assure you none will be on our site. Keep an eye on our page – you’ll be able to see our site soon. I also need to reaffirm Danny that what we have done is totally 100% legal (not legal-ish) – please don’t say otherwise as I wouldn’t want you slandering ourselves 🙂

Danny O’Neill So lets say your site had totally original content, videos, text, whatever. And someone came along, copied, pasted and made their own site and didnt give credit to the original source, and your saying you would be totally cool with that because it’s legal?

Danny O’Neill I shall let you continue on your merry way. It is worth pointing out however that since the 1st April 1989 all works on the internet are the copyrighted property of their creator. Might be worth looking into the Berne convention.

Lisa Penrose Echoing Danny’s superb comments about copyright and professionalism, I saw the advert you posted https://www.odesk.com/jobs/Edit-videos_~~b2a8863a5c9006cc?source=rss&_redirected – and I find it astonishing that you think ripping off Shoot It Yourself’s videos to be ‘re-branded’ as your own is ‘legal’! Also, rigging your Facebook likes and using Shoot It Yourself’s own illustrations – http://www.shoot-it-yourself.co.uk/ – of the stick men (which I personally saw the director of SIY draw herself!) on your website is in no way acceptable.

Luckily your website doesn’t give any impression of quality. As for your claims of being cheaper – your prices are actually hundreds of pounds more expensive! What a joke.

Again, I don’t see the problem with creating a business to do a similar service – just have the creativity and intelligence to come up with your own text, drawings and video edits!

Oh, and learn how to use spell checker while you’re at it.

Lisa Penrose Lol – no, actually www.shoot-it-yourself.co.uk are doing really well, all their hard work and amazing skills are creating unique and wonderful memories for their client’s special day. As I said before, fair competition is not an issue, it’s just disgraceful when things are ripped off and lazily botched together in a hurry to jump on the back of a really successful company. Thought any potential clients of yours should be aware!

Elaine Borges-Ibañez I can add my comments to these stream too…This Facebook Page stole one of my photos and passed it off as its own by pasting THEIR web address over MY fun wedding picture in huge letters. We also shot the video for that bride, so can categorically state that no other professional – or otherwise video camera was present on the day. I also find it very naive that you undervalue the actual knowledge and ability to shoot acceptable, steady and creative footage using a professional HD video camera, so can only pity the gullible brides and grooms that end up relying on your services. xx Reel Life Photos
